Improve process performance

Inline measurement of liquid processes allows for increased analytics and process monitoring. The responses of the liquid’s CP and CIV features to the EMF can be used to analyze and optimize liquid processes in real time. The simultaneous and constant liquid analysis of several features significantly reduces the amount of waste of raw materials, energy and time.

Collo Analyzer solution with its advanced analytics tools help improve process performance and change liquid processes from recipe-based to state-based, making industrial processes more productive and cost-efficient.

Collo Analytics solution

Collo offers three analytics tools for solving process problems:

  1. Single variable monitoring
  2. Process step optimization
  3. Quality control

With these liquid analysis tools accompanied with the continuous, real-time analyzer, Collo solution can be used to optimize virtually any part of a liquid process.

Single Variable monitoring

Single Variable Monitoring is used in processes that are mainly controlled through a single variable, such as oil concentration in metalworking fluid emulsion or viscosity level of resin. In this liquid analysis approach, Collo features are linked with an external variable with a connection to Collo features.

Collo customers have used this method to optimize:

Liquid Analysis data of decreasing particle size
To improve process performance, Collo Permittivity (CP) is linked to the mean particle size in lime process. With continuous inline measurement, the decreasing particle size can be accurately monitored and controlled in real-time for the full duration of the process.

Process step Optimization

Collo’s broad capabilities and real-time measurement can be used to optimize a wide range of process steps to determine their optimal state.

Collo solution is sensitive to changes in liquid, such as homogenization and sedimentation. For example, it can be used to recognize the optimal length of mixing process, optimal energy amount required to break particles or the exact time required for adhesive to keep objects attached together.

Collo Liquid analysis data of a paint dispersion process
Permittivity (CP) is used to recognize the changes in the chemical composition during paint mixing. The CP value reacts to the ingredients getting mixed, and changes in real-time in relation to the homogenization levels. The image depicts the curve flattening when the homogenization is achieved. With real-time CP values, the paint mixing time can be optimized to improve process performance.

Quality control

Inline, real-time measurement in liquids processes allows for increased quality monitoring. For liquid analysis, Collo uses the CP-CIV combination values to identify the liquids state and composition, presenting the “fingerprint” in a 2D-plot. As Collo measurement is very sensitive to changes in the liquid, it can be used to constantly monitor and control the process

Collo Analyzers can be installed to multiple process steps to ensure and increase the process quality and control across the production line. Allowed quality fluctuation limits can be set to the CIV-CP plot. When the liquid quality exceeds the predefined limits, Collo can be set to create alarms to process control or automation systems.

Collo liquid analysis data of the quality of wines
Liquids can be distinguished by their CIV-CP combination values. Collo can be used to find in-process quality fluctuations. The image above depicts Collo liquid analysis of an opened wine as its quality decreases.
